Juliet Moses speaking at STEP NZ Conference on Friday, 8th September in Auckland

Juliet Moses, Partner at TGT Legal is presenting her topic ''Charities as an ideological battleground: the latest law and policy relating to charitable purposes and who has standing to bring actions'' at the STEP Conference, Friday 8th September in Auckland.

Last week a First Tier Tribunal in the UK ruled that the transgender children’s charity had no standing to challenge the charitable status of a gay rights organisation which it considered to be anti-trans. It is thought to be the first case of its kind where one charity sought to challenge the charitable status of another. In NZ as well, there are signs that the law relating to charities is increasingly becoming an ideological battleground – particularly as to what constitutes charitable purposes, and who has standing to challenge them. Juliet will explore the latest cases and policy arguments. Juliet will present her topic in the mid morning session at 11.15am.

Juliet Moses is a partner at TGT Legal, specialising in trusts and succession planning. She has presented for STEP on previous occasions and is a regular presenter of seminars for the New Zealand Law Society and commentator in the media in the area. She is Chair of the STEP Education Committee and a contributing author and tutor of its Trusts and Estates Diploma (NZ). Juliet is also a member of the International Academy of Trust and Estate Law.
